I didn’t have to wait at all in the priority line for check-in, and I was able to check two bags, get my boarding pass and continue on through security in relatively little time.I then headed to the British Airways business-class lounge at JFK. Wi-Fi was available on the plane, but I didn’t use it.The amenity kit was more substantial than the one I received in premium economy — it also included a facial spray and lip balm from Germaine de Capuccini, one of my favorite European skincare brands.Besides this, the amenity kid had a toothbrush and toothpaste, earplugs, socks, an eye mask and, hooray, another ’80s-inspired hair tie in that familiar large, bright red, neoprene case.

I did appreciate the added skincare amenities, but red neoprene case looked tacky, especially compared to Delta’s Tumi hard case.Two lavatories were at the front of the business cabin, and you had to walk through the galley to get to the one on the port side. It is quite well hidden – when you enter the lounge, turn left and keep going until you see it!I liked that there was a double socket by most of the tables which is very handy if you are midway charging something and want to eat. An opportunity to fly a brand new aircraft in business class for 15,000 Avios and £16.80 in Reward Flight Saver fees shouldn’t be passed up without good reason. Now, Iberia does pass on some sizable fees on award tickets booked using Avios – expect to pay about $180 for an economy ticket and $210 or so on a round-trip business class fare. Then we had the pork cheeks which were very good – tender and full of flavour, but very filling and rich.As seems to be the usual case with Iberia boarding was quite chaotic, and the gate was pretty much a rugby scrum of people!Once onboard, things improved. 16 votes utiles. The greens were fresh, and the brie cheese and salmon were both flavorful.I rarely see fish options on planes, especially outside of Asia, and I usually like to try it to see if it’s any good (it almost never is). I could tell that I was going to have a good crew straight away. Cons: apathetic service, bland food and few entertainment selections.Since I’m based in Madrid, I’ve flown numerous times with Spain’s flag carrier Iberia. Having flown out of Terminal 7 with BA many times, I’m very familiar with the terminal, though this was my first time experiencing it and flying an airline other than BA.The check-in area was very quiet, which was expected given how early I was for the 9 p.m. departure. This gave us enough Avios to go to somewhere on both our bucket lists – Buenos Aires.For this flight I used 86,700 Avios + $ 541.62 (about £461) return. I found the seat to be plenty wide, undoubtedly helped by the mentioned gap between the seat and the side of the plane, which is why I’d always recommend an even window number for the solo traveller.The tray table is a single large one that comes down from the seat in front to the side and swivels out in front of the seat. That was definitely a high point of the service aspect of this flight!The very gray business-class cabin is home to 32 lie-flat seats arranged in a 1-2-1 configuration. Basically, the offering felt limited for what’s supposed to be a premium lounge — though it also looked like one of the hot food stations was out of service that evening.There’s even a separate beer area which featured several Brew Dog (a Scottish brewery that’s very popular all over the U.K.) beers on tap.I had trouble connecting to the Wi-Fi from my laptop, though, strangely, it worked fine on my phone. There is a small reading light at shoulder height too.This was RRs first night flight on Iberia’s A350, and he found it very uncomfortable.
