Trek over rocks and stones, through a forest of thousand-year-old trees, along a river and by freshwater springs.
We only saw our guide in the beginning and at the end of the hike. There’s a kiosk just at the end and about 1.5km further a minibus €2/pp to take you to the port for the ferry back.
You know you've made it through when you reach the port village of Agia Roumeli. The timetable for our tours and activities will be available soon!
Basically we paid for a ride to the parkWe were at our assigned pickup point at 6.10am to find out our tour company had gone out of business the day before!!! Our escort will be there to explain all the necessary information about your hike and provide you the tickets for the entrance and ferry boat.Entrance fee : 5€(until 15years old free of charge) , Ferry fee : 10€ ( Sougia ferry) . I checked my phone for a late email with a new departure time/bus from the same spot and all ok. Take some snacks or have quick breakfast at the kiosk at the top. At the end of the trek, visit the village of Agia Roumeli that boasts numerous taverns and shops. Trust me you are ready for a dip in the ocean when you get down from the walk but the sand is very hot and your feet needs air so remember slippers!
Very beautiful.
Remember a hat (it gets hot at the end), one bottle of water (you can fill it up lots of places in the park), bikini/shorts and some slippers. We thought the guide would provide us with info about the area and guide us along. Enjoy a trek in the gorge on a 12-hour excursion that begins with a pick-up in Chania and a drive to Omalos, in the White Mountains.
